Blumenthal Announces National Dance Day Event

July 12, 2013 /

CHARLOTTE, NC – Blumenthal Performing Arts will host Charlotte’s first National Dance Day celebration on Saturday, July 27, from 1 to 4 p.m. in Bank of America’s Founders Hall.

This event is FREE and open to everyone. “National Dance Day is all about having fun and getting some great exercise,” said Ralph Beck, director of Blumenthal’s Education Department, which is organizing the event as part of National Dance Day festivities. “Everyone will have an opportunity to learn some simple steps in several dance styles and then dance their hearts out. No prior dance experience is necessary, no dance routines require partners, and all ages are encouraged to join in the fun.”

The event is part of Blumenthal’s new WHIRL initiative, which is a program designed to give the public a chance to actively participate in the performing arts, as well as watch others giving their inner artists “a whirl” on stage. Along with sponsoring National Dance Day in Charlotte, Blumenthal hosts regular open mic nights for budding artists to perform on Blumenthal stages and will be adding more WHIRL events throughout the year.

National Dance Day was created by Nigel Lythgoe, Executive Producer of So You Think You Can Dance, to promote health and self-esteem through the art form of dance. Blumenthal Performing Arts will join hundreds of other organizations across the country in hosting an array of participatory dance activities on July 27.

Dance instructors will be on site at Founders Hall to help teach the two National Dance Day routines to attendees, as well as three other large group numbers.
