Blumenthal Performing Arts Adds Cyndi Lauper to PNC Celebrity Series

Charlotte, NC (Aug. 23, 2013) – Tickets are on sale now for Cyndi Lauper, who makes her Belk Theater debut on Nov. 12 with the She's So Unusual Tour, commemorating the 30th Anniversary of her iconic debut album of the same name which spawned four Top-5 hits on the Billboard 100 (Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Time After Time, She Bop and All Through the Night).

Lauper is the latest addition to the PNC Celebrity Series, a new collaboration between Blumenthal Performing Arts and PNC Bank, which brings celebrity entertainers to the Queen City. Tickets are available on-line at BlumenthalArts.org, by phone at 704-372-1000 and in person at the Belk Theater box office starting at 10 a.m.

She will perform songs from the entire album as part of the show to honor and thank her legion of fans that have stood by her since the beginning. For the past 30 years, Lauper has been dazzling and surprising her fans all over the world. A multi-talented artist and one of music’s most beloved icons, she has racked up global record sales of over 50 million (and 14 Grammy nominations) and has won countless awards, from a Grammy and an Emmy to numerous honors for her tireless activism. Lauper has also written the music and lyrics for the new Broadway hit adaptation of the British film Kinky Boots. The show recently won 6 Tony® Awards including Best Musical, and Lauper made history by becoming the first solo woman to win the Tony® Award for Best Score.

Other confirmed shows on the PNC Celebrity Series include Grammy Award-winning Michael McDonald on Oct. 9 and dazzling pianist Jim Brickman on Nov. 19 in Knight Theater at Levine Center for the Arts.

Along with popular music stars, the new series will draw from comedy, speakers and other artists that have achieved superstar status during their careers.

Colors of Christmas featuring Peabo Bryson (“A Whole New World”), CeCe Winans (“Everlasting Love”), Ruben Studdard (American Idol winner) and Melissa Manchester (“Midnight Blue” and “Lovers After All”) will take the stage Dec. 20 and 21 in Knight Theater.

Alton Brown Live! The Edible Inevitable Tour is also in the mix on Feb. 24 in Belk Theater. Alton Brown brings his brand of quirky humor and culinary-science antics to the stage. The two-hour show is a unique blend of stand-up comedy, food experimentation, talk show antics, multimedia lecture and live music.
