SlamCharlotte Poetry Slam
Aug 9 , 2013 · BOOTH PLAYHOUSE at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center
$10 General Admission
Presented by: SlamCharlotte & Blumenthal Performing Arts
Blumenthal Performing Arts' monthly Poetry Slams are hosted by SlamCharlotte, Charlotte’s own two time national championship team of spoken word poetry (2007 & 2008). SlamCharlotte strives to promote poetic growth, performance enhancement, and increased camaraderie among the poets and the community through the monthly slam competitions.
The featured artist for this event is Cidney Holliday.
Cidney Holliday has lived in Denver, CO and Little Rock, AR but calls Charlotte, NC her home.
She is a junior at Davidson College and has been performing spoken word for almost five years. Her inspiration for performance came while still in grade school but was fueled by supportive adult poets from SlamCharlotte and Respect Da Mic slam teams
At Davidson College, Cidney has been on the competing teams to travel to the College Union Poetry Slam Invitational (CUPSI). She also traveled to Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam (BNV) with the Speak Up Youth Poetry Slam Team.
She has been a judge, audience member, and volunteer with the National Poetry Slam and individual World Poetry Slam when they were hosted in Charlotte.
Cidney is not only passionate about poetry, but service, scholarship and sisterhood as well.
After college, Cidney will attend law school. Her desire is to reform the justice system.
Following her passions and loving what she does every step of the way is something very important to Cidney and having her first feature performance at ‘home’ is fitting.
Not recommended for children. Adult language and content.
