SlamCharlotte Poetry Slam

Sep 20 , 2013 · BOOTH PLAYHOUSE at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center

$10 General Admission

Presented by:

Blumenthal Performing Arts' monthly Poetry Slams are hosted by SlamCharlotte, Charlotte’s own two time national championship team of spoken word poetry (2007 & 2008). SlamCharlotte strives to promote poetic growth, performance enhancement, and increased camaraderie among the poets and the community through the monthly slam competitions.

Our feature is Liz Prisley. Liz is a writer, teacher, and poet. She instructs First Year Composition at the University of South Florida and is the Campaign Coordinator for a local nonprofit.

Over the past five years she has taught writing at Virginia Tech, the University of Tampa, and at a high school in Darmstadt, Germany. She earned her Masters in English from Virginia Tech in 2012 and her Bachelors in Creative Writing from the University of Central Florida in 2008. After joining the Tampa Bay spoken word community in February of 2012, Liz quickly established herself as a voice for social change. Her poetry explores the facets of female identity, and the spaces between the stereotypes that try to box us into limited expressions of ourselves.

In her spare time, she's starting a nonprofit to build on the workshops and performances she does for spoken word in Pinellas County schools. For more info, visit her website: www.kalipoetics.com.
