Open Captioning Available At Select Performances
Blumenthal is one of seven theater organizations participating in the National Open Captioning Initiative. Partial support for open captioning is provided by Theatre Development Fund.
Open captioning is a service for people with hearing loss that uses a text display to provide a simultaneous translation of dialogue and lyrics during a live performance, as well as a description of any sound effects on stage. The service will be available for anyone sitting in a designated area that allows clear view of captioning. No special equipment is needed by the audience. Because of this, open captioning is considered passive assistance and is part of the Universal Design concept, which means that it can be used by all people, regardless of age and ability.
Along with the open captioning option, Blumenthal Performing Arts will continue to offer signed and described services on the first Sunday matinee of its Broadway engagements.
