Charlotte, NC— Shafaatullah Khan, one of the rare talents to have attained simultaneous excellence in performing on three different instruments Sitar, Surbahar and Tabla, will headline the Festival of India at the Belk Theater (130 N. Tryon Street) on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $10 - $29 and are available online at BlumenthalCenter.org, by phone at (704) 372-1000 or in person at the Founders Hall Box Office.
Khan represents the eighth generation in a family whose lineage can be traced back 400 years to the golden age of the arts in India under the reign of the great Moghal Emperor Akbar. He debuted at the Kingslynn festival in England at the age of 11, which was opened by the Queen Mother. He has performed live worldwide for the last two decades at such prestigious venues as the Acropolis, Athens; Royal Albert Hall, London; The Great Hall of the Kremlin, Moscow; Lincoln Center, New York; Suntory Hall, Tokyo; and the Smithsonian Institute, Washington D.C.
