William Ivey Long has won six Tony Awards for costuming, one of his most-famous being the beloved musical, Hairspray!

Mr. Long's costumes for Cinderella have become adored by musical lovers everywhere. He won the Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Musical, Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella in 2013.

Costumer to rock and roll stars! William Ivey Long designed the costumes for legendary rock star Mick Jagger for the Rolling Stones 1989 Steel Wheels tour!

Blumenthal Performing Arts continues its 25th Anniversary celebration with this lavish and original musical tribute to the Carolinas’ own William Ivey Long, Tony Award winning costumer designer and a Broadway icon.

The show at Knight Theater will feature performances of some of the signature tunes from the musicals and film/TV productions designed by Long. Charles Randolph-Wright, who directed Motown the Musical on Broadway and who is a York, SC native, will direct the original production.

Performance Tickets begin at $25.

Make your evening extra special with tickets for the VIP After Party!  Join Mr. Long and other VIPs at Bechtler Museum of Modern Art after the show for delicious desserts, an open bar and special entertainment.  A limited number of VIP After Party Tickets are available for $100 and can be added when you purchase your tickets for the performance.

VIP Gala Information: A limited number of VIP Gala tickets also are available. The VIP tickets include premium seating for the show, plus a black-tie dinner at the new Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel before the show, and the post-show VIP dessert celebration with Mr. Long. This fabulous evening of stories, songs and tributes will celebrate the man and the work behind the amazing and often magical costumes that have thrilled audiences on stage and screen, garnering Mr. Long 15 Tony Award nominations and six Tony Awards for Best Design.  He also has won a Drama Desk Award and was nominated for an Emmy for his work on  GREASE Live! broadcast on Fox TV.  He also re-imagined designs for The Rocky Horror Picture Show also for FOX, dressed Mick Jagger for The Rolling Stones tour “Steel Wheels,” and designed for dance legends like Twyla Tharp and the NY City Ballet.

Among the Broadway shows designed by Mr. Long are:  The Producers, Hairspray, Chicago, Cabaret, Cinderella, Crazy for You, Guys and Dolls, La Cage aux Folles, 9 to 5,  Young Frankenstein, Nine, On the Twentieth, Bullets Over Broadway and Grey Gardens.

An exhibit of Mr. Long’s work is currently on display at the Mint Museum in Charlotte.

A special preferred parking rate of only $5* is available for our patrons in our designated garage. This Garage is CASH ONLY.

Located at 550 S. Tryon Street with an entrance on W. Stonewall Street.

Pay as you enter the garage.

*The $5 rate is applicable when parked in the garage after 5pm on weekdays, Mon – Fri. If parked in the garage before 5pm, the $5 rate is void. There is no time restriction for the weekend, Sat & Sun. This garage is CASH ONLY.

Wheelchair access
All of our theaters and classrooms are accessible to patrons who use wheelchairs. Most restrooms and water fountains in all facilities are wheelchair accessible, and restrooms are equipped with strobe-light as well as audio alarm systems.

Entry and exit assistance
For performances in the Knight Theater, an usher can meet patrons who need assistance at the corner of 1st and S. Tryon Streets.

SERVICES FOR THE VISUALLY-IMPAIRED

Audio Description
Certain performances will be audio described for the blind or visually impaired. The Box Office will provide a schedule of these performances upon request. Audio description provides an on-going oral description of the action, sets and costumes during the performance. Each participant wears a headset, and no other patrons are able to hear the descriptions.

Large Print Programs
Large print programs are available for patrons at many performances. At the Knight Theater, simply ask any usher for assistance.

Service Animals
If you or someone in your party plans to attend an event with a service animal, please inform the Box Office when purchasing your tickets so that we may arrange for an aisle seat.

SERVICES FOR THE DEAF AND HARD-OF-HEARING

Interpreting
Certain performances at the Performing Arts Center will be interpreted for the hearing impaired. The Box Office will provide a schedule of these performances as requested.
