Happy "TUNES"day! This week we are featuring Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes.
"Looking for a good time?" Well, you've come to the right place. Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes are a rock/ heartland rock band led by Southside Johnny. The main sound of the band is The Jersey Shore sound-- a genre of rock and roll popularized at the Jersey Shore. Speaking of New Jersey, Southside Johnny, AKA John Lyon has been considered the Grandfather of "the New Jersey Sound." Subsequently, he is born and raised in Neptune, New Jersey-- so one can assume there is a lot of Jersey pride with this band!
Among their well-known songs is "I Don't Want to Go Home" off of their first album with the same title. The song was written in 1976 by Steven Van Zandt (band co-founder) and you can listen to it here. "I Don't Want to Go Home" features a mix of horn-based melodic riffs and sentimental lyrics. Their 1978 album, Hearts of Stone, was voted by Rolling Stone Magazine in 1982 as among the top 100 albums of the 1970s and 1980s.
Since the 70's, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes have performed across the US, UK, and Europe. Their feel-good, classic Jersey Shore sound that made them popular in the 70's still rings true today. Sticking to their 70's roots, their new album, Soultime, features the song "Looking for a Good Time."
