New Digs, Same Gags: Robot Johnson Moves Into Spirit Square

Apr 22, 2008 /

CHARLOTTE – Robot Johnson (www.robotjohnson.com), Charlotte’s premier underground sketch comedy troupe, is moving up in the world. Through a new partnership with the North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, the purveyors of self-styled “good humor by bad people” are moving into their new digs at Spirit Square this May.
Currently performing in the Charlotte Comedy Theatre (located in the back of The Graduate’s Plaza location), this battle-tested combination of former Perch cast members, improv artists and stand-up veterans will begin performances at the Duke Energy Theatre on May 16. Performances will take place Friday and Saturday nights at 8 pm and 10 pm.
Former Perch stalwart and MTV2 pitchman The Talking Baby will be making His triumphant return at the very first performance, a fact that should make any Charlotte comedy fan ecstatic. Robot Johnson founder and producer – and Mr. Baby’s creator – Sean Keenan couldn’t be happier. “I’ve missed that foul-mouthed puppet,” says Keenan. “And I know he’ll be glad to get out of that drawer he’s been occupying for the last couple of years.”
