Theater Launch Initiative
Blumenthal Arts’ Theater Launch Initiative is a two-year partnership designed to help elementary schools launch a new, sustainable musical theater program for their students.
Selected schools will work closely with Blumenthal Arts and an experienced teaching artist to build the skills, structures, and resources needed to produce a school musical and establish a Theater program that can continue for years to come.
During the two-year partnership, participating schools will receive mentorship, production support, resources, and opportunities to connect their students with the larger Theater community—including participation in Blumenthal Arts’ Junior Theater Celebration.
What the Partnership Includes
Blumenthal Arts will work alongside participating schools to help establish the foundation for a successful Theater program. Support may include:
- A teaching artist mentor to guide the school team through the production process
- Licensing and production resources for a student musical
- Support with rehearsal planning, casting, staging, costumes, scenery, props, and other production needs
- Guidance for building an inclusive program that gives students meaningful opportunities to participate both onstage and behind the scenes
- Assistance developing systems for fundraising, family engagement, and long-term program sustainability
- Participation in the Junior Theater Celebration, where students can perform, learn, and celebrate Theater alongside other school groups
A Partnership Built for the Future
The Theater Launch Initiative is designed to launch a program—not temporarily provide one.
Schools selected for the initiative should be ready to take an active role in building their program alongside Blumenthal Arts. School administrators, teachers, families, and other members of the school community will be important partners in making the program successful.
Participating schools will be expected to:
- Establish and support a school Theater club or musical Theater program
- Identify a school-based staff member who will work closely with the teaching artists and grow into leadership of the program
- Produce a licensed student musical during each year of the two-year partnership
- Provide appropriate rehearsal space, administrative support, and communication with students and families
- Participate in the Junior Theater Celebration each year of the partnership
- Work with Blumenthal Arts to build an audience and school community around the program
- Work with Blumenthal Arts to develop fundraising and other strategies that will help sustain future productions
- Demonstrate a genuine commitment to continuing the Theater program after Blumenthal Arts’ two-year partnership concludes
The strongest candidates will be schools that see this opportunity as the beginning of a long-term investment in Theater education and are excited to build the program alongside us.
