Assistant Technical Production Manager

Position Summary  

Under the close supervision of the Technical Production Director and Lead Technical Production Manager, the Assistant Technical Production Manager supports Blumenthal’s mission of offering the very best in arts and entertainment to its patrons by assisting in advancing, purchasing/renting, installing, maintaining, operating, and disassembling technical production equipment, and coordinating onstage and backstage activities with clients, and internal or external stakeholders, for events and activities.  The role advances and executes small scale shows and events at Blumenthal Performing Arts. This position requires 40+ hours weekly including work at night, on weekends, and holidays.  

Duties & Responsibilities  

  • Assists in ensuring compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations and standards of production, quality, and safety.   

  • Assist in supervising stagehands as assigned; supervisory duties include instructing, planning and assigning work, reviewing work, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel and acting on employee problems.  

  • Assists in meeting with clients and other internal or external stakeholders to discuss production needs and budgets, prepare labor and equipment estimates, and provide operational oversight for events.   

  • Install, maintain, repair and coordinate the use of stage equipment, including sound and lighting systems and equipment.  

  • Coordinate backstage and front of house activities for assigned events and activities.  

  • Schedule and perform show load-ins and load-outs, assist with show set-up, oversee rehearsals, and run events and activities.    

  • Set up and coordinate all technical equipment for performance spaces, meetings, catering, etc. as needed.   

  • Assist other departments with technical maintenance needs as requested.   

  • Maintain knowledge of current trends and technology in technical theater.  

  • Responsible for preparation and completion of all necessary internal and external paperwork including daily reports, stagehand payroll reports, contract and rider review, blueprints, etc.    

  • Refer to architectural and electrical plans, diagrams, equipment manuals, show riders, lighting color swatch books, computer manual, policy and procedure manuals, etc.   

Qualifications

Education and Experience   

  • Undergraduate degree in technical theater or related field and a minimum of two years of experience and/or training in technical theater with a focus on event management and production, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

  • Experience with Q-Lab programming and operations  

  • Basic understanding of projection and video equipment including HD, SDI, DVI

Physical Requirements  

  • Ability to climb a ladder, operate aerial work platforms, and be comfortable working at height.
