Avenue Q North American Tour
Makes Over $2,100 Donation
AVENUE Q, the smash-hit Broadway musical about real life in New York City, is making over a $2,100 donation to the American Red Cross to assist in the Japan relief efforts.  This donation is made possible due to the fundraising efforts by company members of the North American Tour of AVENUE Q and the generosity and compassion of the Charlotte theatre community.
Cast member, Lisa Helmi Johanson (Christmas Eve) has spearheaded this initiative.  She says,  “being that one of the many beautiful messages of AVENUE Q is its story of community and helping others, it was only natural for us to reach out and do whatever we could to help contribute to a country faced with such catastrophe.”  Johanson and her fellow cast and crew members were moved to help after experiencing the warmth and graciousness of the Japanese during Avenue Q’s recent two-week engagement in Tokyo.
After fundraising for only two nights in Charlotte the tour has collected over $2,100 dollars and will continue their efforts for the remaining six performances in Charlotte.  Johanson says that, “our requests for donations are straight from the heart and it's been a moving experience witnessing people's generosity.  The response has been far more than I expected but not more than I had hoped - it's a little dream come true.”
As of date, the North American Tour of AVENUE Q has raised over $7175 in Tulsa, OK and Charlotte, NC combined.
AVENUE Q returns to Charlotte at the Knight Theater, Tuesday, April 5-Sunday, April 10.    Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at BlumenthalArts.org, 704-372-1000 or from the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center Box Office located in the Tryon Street lobby of the Belk Theater.
AVENUE Q is the PG-13 rated musical about real life in New York City, as told by a cast of people and puppets through a hilariously irreverent, Tony-winning book and score.  Due to adult situations (like full-puppet nudity), AVENUE Q is definitely not “fur” the little ones.
