Essentially the second this year's Blumey Awards participants took their final bows inside Belk Theater, a team of professionals got straight to work refinishing the stage.

Fun Facts:

- Load out for The Blumey Awards wrapped at 2 a.m. Monday morning. Our team of 4 was on the refinishing job 7 hours later

- We "screen" the floor (rough it up enough to take fresh lacquer) every 5 years

- This is the first time in 12 years we've sanded the floor down to the bare wood

- More than 500 individual performances have performed on the stage since it was last screened

- 1000+ performances since it was last sanded

- We did three coats of new lacquer - each coat takes 10 gallons

- The lacquer is a new water-based, low VOC (volatile organic compounds) product that’s better for the environment. It also doesn't’t make the theater smell like lacquer for weeks afterward

- The first group to take to the new stage is Community School of Davidson on June 1

- The first show presented by Blumenthal Performing Arts on the new stage will be self proclaimed personal astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Tickets are still available but are going fast!
