Tickets go on sale tomorrow, Friday, May 14 at 10 a.m. for all three shows and can be purchased online at BlumenthalCenter.org, by phone at 704-372-1000 or from the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center Box Office located in the Tryon Street lobby of the Belk Theater.
Blues singer/composer/multi-instrumentalist Otis Taylor is capable of exploring any musical mood at any given time, and it’s an important reason why he is considered one of the most talented artists to emerge in recent years. “Sometimes pigeonholed as a bluesman, Otis Taylor can’t be defined by any single category,” proclaims Spin magazine. According to Ann Powers at the Los Angeles Times, “Gentle upon first listen, blending the austerity of Delta blues with the expansiveness of free jazz, Taylor's ancient-sounding, avant-garde ‘trance blues’ has a dangerous pull.” The Oxford American raves, “It might not be too early to call Otis Taylor a major talent.”
In his new one-man show MANish Boy, Ralph Harris shares hilarious tales of his upbringing and explores the ways in which his formative years have affected the man he is today. A natural storyteller, Harris is one of today's hottest comedic and acting talents. A finalist on Last Comic Standing and a frequent guest on the nationally syndicated radio program The Bob & Tom Show, Harris has performed on The Tonight Show and his acting credits include Seinfeld and Dreamgirls.
Too energetic to be labeled just "folk” and not angry enough to be pegged "alternative", eddie from ohio continues to defy description with their unique blend of vocals and acoustic instrumentation. A bedrock foundation of hand and stick percussion and a textural flavoring of guitar/bass/harmonica support the four-part harmonies and lyrically-driven original music. While this combination has drawn comparisons like the Grateful Dead meets Peter, Paul & Mary, or like Jewel fronts the Bare Naked Ladies, EFO fuses a multitude of musical influences to create their own trademark sound. Performing Songwriter writes, "The manic strumminess recalls Ani DiFranco or Dave Matthews, but there's also a deep undercurrent of high, lonesome mountain harmony that should appeal to fans of Alison Krauss and Union Station."
