Charlotte, NC – North Carolina-based DAVID WILCOX comes to the McGlohon Theatre Friday, Feb. 26, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. for one performance only. For more than fifteen years David Wilcox has been making music that bravely navigates a path through the emotional static of modern life towards a better place.  This concert is presented by MaxxMusic, Visulite Theatre, and the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online at BlumenthalCenter.org, by phone at 704-372-1000, or from the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center Box Office located in the Tryon Street lobby of the Belk Theater.
A warm, baritone vocal tone and poetic lyricism are combined with a unique guitar style that blends soft jazz and folk sensibilities and an intimate stage persona by singer/songwriter David Wilcox. Often compared to James Taylor and John Martyn, Wilcox has built a solid fan base for his well-crafted folk-pop tunes.
David's own musical story began in college, when he took up the guitar after hearing a fellow student playing Buckets Of Rain by Bob Dylan. It was the first time he had ever experienced music as something that anyone can do. He picked up the guitar and began to experiment. Within a few months, he was writing his own songs. Drawing on influences from James Taylor to Motown to Joni Mitchell (she inspired him to explore alternate tunings), he created a sound that is both highly personal and emotionally forthright. "I'm drawn to artists who disclose something about themselves and let you in their world," Wilcox says.
