Earlier Nights, Earlier Curtain: Blumenthal Arts Adjusts Weekend Show Times
CHARLOTTE, NC – Is Charlotte becoming a city of early birds? Blumenthal Arts is making sure theatergoers don’t have to choose between curtain call and a good night’s rest.
Beginning with The Sound of Music on Nov. 18, select performance times for Broadway productions at the Belk Theater will start earlier; a shift that reflects a collective lifestyle change and how the organization continues to evolve.
New curtain times are as follows:
- Friday evenings: 7:30 p.m. (previously 8 p.m)
- Saturday evenings: 7:30 p.m. (previously 8 p.m)
- Sunday matinees: 1 p.m. (previously 1:30 p.m)
- Sunday evenings: 6:30 p.m. (previously 7 p.m)
“Charlotte has grown and changed in so many ways, and so have the routines of the people who make our theatres come alive,” said Tom Gabbard, President and CEO of Blumenthal Arts. “We want our audiences to have the best experience possible, and for many, that means a curtain time that better fits their busy routines.”
The adjustments follow audience feedback and mirror a broader lifestyle shift towards earlier evenings, especially for those commuting uptown for shows. It’s part of Blumenthal’s ongoing commitment to making live theatre feel inviting, effortless, and in step with the community it serves.
“Everything we do is about connection,” added Gabbard. “If this small change helps people enjoy dinner beforehand, make it home a little earlier, or simply feel more at ease coming to the theatre, then it’s a change worth making.”
