Harlem Gospel Choir Comes to McGlohon Theatre Feb. 16
Charlotte, NC – One of the most prominent gospel choirs in America, “The Harlem Gospel Choir,” will perform on Monday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the McGlohon Theatre at Spirit Square (345 N. College St.). The concert is presented by the North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center as part of the Presbyterian Hospital Family Series.

The choir was founded by Alvin Bailey, who was inspired after attending a party honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Cotton Club in Harlem. He decided to form the choir on King’s birthday in 1986.
The choir is comprised of the finest singers and musicians from Harlem’s Black Churches and the New York/Tri-State area. Singers ranging from ages 17 - 70 travel the world with the goal of spreading their message of love and inspiration to all nations and cultures.
Since its beginning, the choir has performed on national programs such as “Good Morning America” and the “Colbert Report.” It has also performed for celebrities and world leaders such as: Nelson Mandela, Pope John Paul II, Paul McCartney, Diana Ross, Bono, Lyle Lovett, and others.
