PNC Broadway Lights Season Subscriber Testimonial

June 28, 2018 / Blog

Have you renewed your PNC Broadway Lights season subscription yet? See what repeat PNC Broadway Lights season subscriber Fae Shaffer has to say about her Broadway experience in Charlotte:

The unrelenting chaos of life is real, people. As the demand for instant responses to work increases and the formerly clear lines on the workday get blurred, I find it nearly impossible to fit in the extra things that make me happy. I find myself without the time or the headspace to even grab a yoga class. How many times has that concert I wanted to catch come and gone and I missed the dates? That is where planned commitments like my season subscription to the Broadway Lights series come to the rescue. I renew each year and know that I will have at least 8 chances to feed my soul and make meaningful connections to people and art.

I have to look no further than next to me in the car to know the value of these connections. My teenage daughter is often perching, neck craned downwards towards her phone--and sadly, so am I. She’s been my theater partner increasingly over the years and it is something for which we share a love. There’s nothing better than watching her spontaneously dancing in her seat while Deborah Cox belts out a Whitney song and then listening to Houston's entire discography over the next week together, at home, in the car. It spurs conversations about when I was a kid in the ‘80’s and we aren’t looking at our phones or discussing an outrageous social media post. A few months ago, we were at Something Rotten, crying from laughter, and she was nailing every musical in the montage number! After the show, we talk about the references and which one’s we’d love to see again. (The fight for the second Hamilton seat in our family is very real.) My job is done here young Padawan--soul fed.

Without the subscription, we would never have enjoyed so many shows together. The convenience of securing the seats for the whole season and spreading out payments over the year has been key to it working for us. On top of that, The Blumenthal has been shockingly flexible in meeting our needs as a busy family. If something comes up, they make every effort to make it work for you and your schedule. It’s as if they really want you to see the show--go figure! Stephen Sondheim famously said, “art in itself, is an attempt to bring order out of chaos.” Thanks to my subscription I get a little order.
