ROBOT JOHNSON RETURNS UPTOWN JUNE 20 - 27

SPECIAL CO-PRODUCTION WITH SLAMCHARLOTTE ON JUNE 20
June 10, 2008 /

Charlotte, NC – Robot Johnson, Charlotte’s premiere sketch comedy group, is coming back to Spirit Square by popular demand. The group, which just finished a 12-show run in the Duke Energy Theatre, has announced five more performances in June in the larger 730-seat McGlohon Theatre, including a June 20 double-feature with SlamCharlotte, the reigning national champions in spoken word poetry.
On Fri, June 20, a special $12 ticket price will be available for fans who would like to purchase tickets to the 7:30 p.m. Poetry Slam and 10 p.m. The Robot Johnson Show. Single tickets are $7 for Poetry Slam and $8 for The Robot Johnson Show that night only. (All other performances of The Robot Johnson Show cost $15 each.)
Even fans that choose to attend only one event will get a taste of both local acts as The Robot Johnson Show’s house band Space Monkey will perform in between slam poetry performances and poets will be highlighted periodically throughout The Robot Johnson Show. Both shows contain adult content and language. For tickets, go to BlumenthalCenter.org, call (704) 372-1000 or visit the Performing Arts Center box office in the Belk Theater (130 N. Tryon St.).
The Robot Johnson Show will also run Sat, June 21 at 8 and 10 p.m. and Fri, June 27 at 8 and 10 p.m.
Robot Johnson is no stranger to moving from a smaller to a larger space. In April, they were performing at the Charlotte Comedy Theatre, a fifty-seat venue located in the back of The Graduate at Central and The Plaza. “It’s all part of our plot for world domination,” explains producer and co-founder Sean Keenan. “First The Graduate, then Spirit Square, then the world. Then Las Vegas, and then the world again.”
