NC & SC STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN ANNUAL BROADWAY JUNIOR CELEBRATION

Apr 12, 2011 /

Charlotte, NC – Nearly 1,100 students representing 27 elementary and middle schools from the Carolinas take arts education center stage Tuesday and Wednesday, April 12-13, for the annual Broadway Junior Theater Celebration in Knight Theater at Levine Center for the Arts.
Created and directed by iTheatrics, a premier creative consultant in educational musical theater based in New York City, in association with Blumenthal Performing Arts Education Department, the event brings together people from all aspects of theater – ranging from students and teachers to professionals who work on Broadway – under one roof to celebrate outstanding student musical theater productions. It also offers an enthusiastic, educational environment to interact with hundreds of others who share a passion for musical theater.
During the two days, students from each school will present a selection from their Broadway Junior musical production for a distinguished panel of theater professionals and will receive valuable feedback about their creativity, engagement in the performance, understanding of the material and connection to the lyrics and movement.  Some of the titles being performed include High School Musical, Jr., Jungle Book Kids and Into the Woods, Jr.  Additionally, students will participate in dynamic workshops.
New this year, the iTheatrics team will pick two all-stars from each school.  Each all-star will receive a special medal and a special part in the closing ceremony.
“Broadway Junior Theater Celebration is an extraordinary annual event. The enthusiasm and attentiveness of the participating students is always revitalizing to the attending adults who love kids, education and the performing arts,” said Ralph Beck, Blumenthal Performing Arts Director of Education.
