Nerdy Night Out: Cocktail Recipes!

Nov 16, 2021 /

It's time to eat, drink and be...scary. Charlotte’s funniest women are back on stage this week with Nerdy Night Out: Scary Ladies Who Rock. The show will cover the stories of some of history’s most notorious women who deserve your attention...and a few who deserve jail time.

You’ll laugh, you’ll gasp, and you’ll certainly be glad you grabbed a ticket. We’re welcoming both virtual and in-person audiences to indulge in a night of debauchery with us, but whether you’re watching from home or in the audience, you’ll want a devilish drink to soothe those side stitches.

As is tradition with the Ladies Who Rock gang, here are a few cocktails inspired by some awesome women from history! Join us on Wednesday, November 17, at the Booth Playhouse to learn who inspired these yummy drinks.

1. Madagascar Mad Queen

1 part light rum

⅔ part lime juice

⅓ part vanilla liqueur

⅓ part vanilla syrup

Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake it like you’re a power-hungry queen, and pour into a martini glass to stabilize your empire.

2. Hurricane LaVeau

2 oz. light rum

2 oz. dark rum

2 oz. passion fruit juice

1 oz. orange juice

½ oz. fresh lime juice

1 tablespoon simple syrup

1 tablespoon grenadine

Orange slice and cherry for garnish

Shake all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and a pinch of voodoo magic. Strain into a hurricane glass filled with ice. Garnish with a cherry and an orange slice.

3. A Red Russian

2 shots Stoli vodka

2 shots strawberry schnapps

This is the cocktail for the sharpshooter in your life. Combine all four shots over ice.

4. Frankenstein's Monster Martini

2oz Midori

1oz vodka

0.5 oz triple sec

1.5 oz pineapple Juice

0.5 oz lemon juice

Mix, strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with one maraschino cherry no stem (so the red drops to the bottom). This cocktail is as chilling as literature’s premier horror classic.

5. Silent Sisters

1 part absinthe

2 parts champagne or prosecco

Dash Angostura bitters

Sugar cube

Torch (optional)

Orange peel for garnish

Add a dash of bitters to a champagne flute. Using a sugar spoon over the top of the glass, place the sugar cube on the spoon. Pour chilled champagne over the cube until the flute is ¾ full. Use a torch to brown the sugar cube. What's a Gibbons sisters drink without a bit of arson? Add one jigger of absinthe. Garnish with a sliver of orange peel. Indulge in the blend of twin spirits.

6. Giggle Juice

Lemon wedge, for rimming glasses

Sugar, for rimming glasses

1 (750-ml) bottle Moscato

3 c. pink lemonade

1 can lemon-lime soda

1 c. vodka

2 c. sliced strawberries

1 lemon, sliced into half-moons

This is a batch cocktail, perfect for the gal who has five very thirsty husbands. Combine one bottle of Moscato with three cups pink lemonade, a can of lemon-lime soda and a cup of vodka. Let chill for a few hours. Rim your glasses with lemon and coat in sugar. Pour liquid over ice and fresh fruit. Enjoy while reading your favorite romance novel - who knows what drink might be your last, teehee!
