Blumenthal Staff Show Off Their Mask Style

If you've ever seen Broadway favorites like The Phantom of the Opera, you know masks have always been cool. Masks have a long-standing history onstage, and now, they'll give some flare to those off-stage as well. We asked some of our Blumenthal staff about their favorite masks and why they think it's important to don one when they're out and about.

Where did you get your masks? 1. Navy and white stripe - etsy; 2. CLT Crown - 704 Shop (local, small business); 3. Animal Print - Love You Back Boutique (local, small business); 4. Stars - Ivy and Leo (local, small business)

Why do you wear a mask? I wear a mask to keep others safe in case I am asymptomatic. Additionally, I wear a mask to protect myself as I am immunocompromised due to medication.

Where did you get your mask? I have a lot of masks, however this one with the hearts is my favorite. It was my first with color and my son gave it to me.

Where did you get your mask? Resistance by Design

Why do you wear a mask? Because like voting, wearing a mask is an act of love for yourself, your family and your community.

Where did you get your mask? My dad made it for me out of leftover fabric he discovered that had been originally used in my childhood bedroom.

Why do you wear a mask? Wearing a mask is vital right now to help protect myself and others and to help me feel more comfortable when I leave the house. And let's be real; a mask is summer's hottest new (necessary) accessory.

Where did you get your masks? Masks were purchased from Disney. Proceeds went to MedShare to help underserved communities.

Why do you wear a mask? We should all wear masks to take care of ourselves, but more importantly, to take care of each other.

Describe your mask style in three words or less. Fun, pop, colorful

Where did you get your mask? Disney Villains: College classmate and friend Amanda, who is now a college professor of theatre, made it. For every mask she sells, she is donating a mask to essential workers. Star Wars: An independent craft maker who has moved to making masks. A portion of her sales go to a charity supporting vulnerable populations.

Why do you wear a mask? It's important to be a part of slowing the curve and protecting others while scientists and medical professionals work diligently to create a vaccine and treat those who are sick.

Describe your mask style. Rainbow mask: Colorful, fun and pride-inspired; Vote mask: resourceful, crafty with a call-to-action.

Where did you get your mask? Rainbow mask: My friend and local costume designer, Ramsey Lyric, made it for me along with several others. Vote mask: My sister gave me the base and I painted "VOTE" on it before I went out to the first round of BLM protests.

Why do you wear a mask? I think that every single person living in first-world nations can stand to be slightly inconvenienced over the course of a few months if that means keeping our elderly and higher-risk friends and family safe. Plus, we can start to flatten the curve so much faster if everyone just complies with mask-wearing!

Why do you wear a mask? Wearing masks is a small sacrifice so we can get back to gathering and seeing theater shows...and it saves lives.

Where did you get your mask? The Pod Save America podcast website! I was super bummed when we had to cancel their live show at Knight Theater earlier this year but I'm hopeful they'll reschedule one day!

Why do you wear a mask? It's the simplest, most effective way to show those around you that you care for their health and safety during these uncertain times - not to mention they're one of the key factors that will help us return to live shows!
